Add one more innovation to Memphis' illustrious list of firsts. We can claim the first self-service grocery store (Piggly Wiggly), the first family-friendly hotel chain (Holiday Inn), the first international overnight delivery service (FedEx), and, although arguably, rock-and-roll music.

To Bartlett police, it's a clear-cut case of murder and suicide, complete with confession letters. But to families of Lisa Davis and Austin Agee, questions still abound.

Lisa Davis seldom drank alcohol, worked out regularly, and grew up sparring with older brothers. She was outgoing, funny, and a lover of practical jokes.

Many of the city's sanitation workers, charged with solid waste removal, had opted not to work in the snow that day, referring to a clause in their version of a contract called the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The document, whose inclement weather policy had been in effect since the 1970s, states — among other conditions — that workers may choose to work indoors during certain types of bad weather, including snow, ice, rain, storms, tornadoes, or temperatures of 15 degrees Fahrenheit or below.
