"Only the Lauderdales had the savoir-faire to wear neckties of such impressive proportions," says our monthly columnist and this month's Point/Counterpoint contributor, Vance Lauderdale. "This particular photograph — always one of mother's favorites — was taken to commemorate my graduation from elementary school in Edinburgh when I was a young lad of 19." The same image was later used to promote the Lauderdale family's line of pomade, trusses, and hemorrhoid creams — ill-conceived ventures that, as with all the other Lauderdale businesses — failed.
