We sent former Conde Nast staffer Geraldine Campbell to five local chef's homes to take a peek at what goes on away from the demanding palates of diners, and share a few tricks of the trade, including easy-to-replicate recipes for a few of their favorite dishes. Geraldine Campbell

Freelance writer Geraldine Campbell is a transplant from New York City. Her articles have appeared in Condé Nast Traveler, Budget Travel, and The Memphis Flyer. While she loves food and travel -- and writing about both -- she hasn't always been in this business. In fact, Geraldine is a bit of a Jill of all trades, having tried her hand at investment banking, consulting, and teaching. She also once applied to be a barista at Starbucks, but was turned down because the manager didn't think she had long-term potential. She graduated from Yale with a major in history, but a true math nerd at heart, she also took classes in organic chemistry, differential equations, and game theory just for the fun of it. She thinks this career choice will stick and is excited to make Memphis her home, get her fill of barbecue, and learn to love Elvis. She lives on Mud Island, with her boyfriend, David, who is also her proofreader, editor, and biggest fan.

Justin Fox Burks

Using Memphis' unique texture for inspiration, freelance photojournalist Justin Fox Burks captures interesting and decisive images of this city's inhabitants. In 2005, his portraits of artists, musicians, and newsmakers was shown at Jack Robinson Gallery. In addition to his regular contributions to Rhodes and The Memphis Flyer, Burks' photographs have appeared in The Oxford American, the London Independent, and Mojo magazine. Justin earned his B.F.A. in photography at the University of Memphis. When not behind a camera, he's trying out new vegetarian recipes and making and recording music with friends.

Rachel Drinkard

Rachel Drinkard is a freelance writer who produces the Memphis music and nightlife blog www.pulpfaction.org. Her articles have recently appeared in Midsouth, Nashville Home & Garden, and The Commercial Appeal. She knows entirely too much about animal husbandry, antique typewriters, and dead civilizations, and has been known to take off to such varied locales as Alaska and Hawaii for extended periods of time, but always comes home to Memphis.

Taylor Eason

This month's Buzz writer Taylor Eason was born and raised in Atlanta. She received her undergraduate degree in English/French literature from Colgate University, whose proximity to New York wineries led to her fascination with the grape. She enrolled at Ecôle Hotelière de Genève in Switzerland, a 15-month restaurant management school that emphasizes cooking techniques and European wine education. Taylor traveled extensively during her stay in Europe, to French and Italian wine countries, becoming more wine geeky every day. Afterwards, she moved to Tampa, Florida, to manage the Harry Waugh Dessert Room at Bern's Steakhouse, famous for having the most extensive wine list in the world. In August 2001, she launched Corkscrew, a weekly wine education column. Taylor lives in Tampa with her cat, Mitch, and her kick-ass wine collection.
