PRESTON LAUTERBACH

"Anatomy of an Inferno" is Preston Lauterbach's second feature story for Memphis magazine. His first, "Following the Chitlin' Circuit," (July 2006) traced the roots of what's known as "grown-folk's music" among the genre's fans, as well the careers of blues artists such as Marvin Sease and Bobby Rush. He is currently working on a book on the subject. Lauterbach has written about music in the Mid-South since 2001, writing for the University of Memphis, Rhodes College, and Soulsville. His most recent features, "Trash Talkin'" and "Going Uptown?" were cover stories for the Memphis Flyer. Born in Richmond, Virginia, and raised in San Diego, California, he married into Memphis in 2004. Lauterbach joins the staff of Memphis this month as a full-time staff writer.

LEONARD GILL

Leonard Gill is a Memphian born and bred, and before returning to his hometown in 1984, he learned about the publishing trade as an editor for a subsidiary of Harper & Row in Boston. At the Round Table Bookstore in Memphis, he then got a first-hand look at the book trade. He is a copy editor and book reviewer for the Memphis Flyer and, as a monthly columnist for Memphis, he focuses on fiction and nonfiction of local or regional interest. He also serves as a judge for Memphis' annual fiction competition.

BRAD JONES

Photographer Brad Jones is a native of Coldwater, Mississippi. He moved to Memphis to attend Memphis College of Art, where he planned to major in illustration. Armed with an old Pentax camera, he enrolled in one of MCA's photography classes, and found his true passion. He graduated from MCA with a BFA in photography in 2001. After living in California, Texas, and Kentucky, Jones made his way back to Memphis, and settled in Midtown. "I love Memphis because of the rich cultural heritage the city has, and the number of interesting characters found here. It's a great place to be a photographer," says Jones, who began shooting for Memphis magazine in 2001.

NICKY ROBERTSHAW

A longtime journalist, first as Washington correspondent for Women's Wear Daily and others, then as a reporter for Memphis Business Journal, Nicky is now a food and travel writer. She combined those interests for last November's magazine, traveling to Vancouver, British Columbia, to see if the buzz about the area's restaurant scene was deserved. (It was.) Nicky is the author of a book, Insider's Guide to Memphis, and hails from a town of writers, Greenville, Mississippi.
