Check Out the Artisans' Market Saturday at Williams-Sonoma for Sampling and Recipes

The monthly artisans’ market at the Williams-Sonoma Germantown store will feature local purveyors, including me, from noon to 4 p.m. this Saturday.

The markets, held the second Saturday of every month, offer samplings and opportunities to discuss and purchase local products, such as Memphis Marinades, a series of four marinade mixes for lamb, beef, chicken and pork.

Jim Boland, who developed the marinades during barbecue cooking competitions worldwide, will be behind the store’s Viking stove, cooking chicken breasts in a grill pan and finishing them in the oven.

“I’ll marinate the meat overnight, so on Saturday we’ll be good to go,” Boland said. (Expect the store to smell delicious!)

Jones Orchard, a family-run farm in Millington operating for seven decades, also will participate. Well-known for its pick-your-own produce, Jones Orchard regularly participates in local farmers markets, selling country-style jams and jellies along with seasonal fruits and vegetables.

I’ll be on hand, as well, with copies of “Food Lovers’ Guide to Memphis: The Best Restaurants, Markets & Local Culinary Offerings,” chef recipes and samplings from one of the purveyors featured in my book.
