04/15/13Memphians Launch the Official 30A Discount Card in Time for Busy SeasonYou don't have to look very hard to notice that 30A has a strong presence in Memphis. Whether you're on the interstate or a backroad, you're likely to spot the circular blue logo on bumper stickers across the Mid-South (so much so, that our own marketing manager Googled “30A” to see what the hype was about). If you're not already familiar with the Highway 30A community, take a look at the “Your Perfect Beach” story from our March issue. If you are familiar with the area (evidence of bumper stickers shows you might be), you'll be delighted to hear that they've launched a new “must have” membership program card to help both locals and tourists save on activities in the area. The official 30A card,... |

12/11/12We Welcome Stories for Our Fiction ContestFor 21 years, Memphis magazine has sponsored the annual short story contest for Mid-South writers. And this year is no different. What is different is the deadline. Instead of August 1st, we want your stories on or before February 1st. Don't forget: The grand-prize winner receives the tidy sum of $1,000 and will have the story published in our June Culture Issue. The two honorable mention prizes aren't too shabby either: $500 each. So dust off that manuscript, polish up the prose, and send us your best work. We are always excited to read your fiction and to offer the opportunity to publish the best story each year. And we extend our thanks to Burke's Book Store and the Booksellers of Laurelwood for their faithful cosponsorship of the fiction contest.... |

12/06/12Cash Mob Comes to MemphisThis Sunday, December 9th, cash mobs are coming to Memphis. No reason to be scared, though. While they might sound frightening, cash mobs are just a clever way of saying “a movement that encourages the community to support locally-owned businesses, thus boosting the economy.” The cash mob, held at Literacy Mid-South, will benefit numerous business owners who are part of the Memphis Creative Women's Collective that might not have store fronts to sell their merchandise. Featuring everything from pottery to paintings, it's ideal for stocking up on gifts and shopping local. Each business participating, including Thigh High Jeans and Metal and Mud among others, is donating 10% of their profit to Literacy Mid-South. For more about the... |
